Terms of sale and licence.
How buying PUB Rescue works, and what your licence lets you do. These terms are also the licence agreement shown in the app.
1. Who we are
1.1 PUB Rescue is made by QUIX Global s.r.o., Příčná 1892/4, Nové Město, 110 00 Praha 1, Czech Republic, Company ID 22466444, VAT ID CZ22466444, registered in the Commercial Register kept by the Municipal Court in Prague, section C, file 416432 ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@pub-rescue.com.
1.2 These terms apply to anyone who installs, activates or uses PUB Rescue ("you"). If you accept them for an organization, you confirm that you may bind it.
1.3 By installing, activating or using PUB Rescue you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not install or use it.
2. How buying works
2.1 Our reseller is Paddle. Licences are sold on pub-rescue.com through Paddle.com Market Ltd and its affiliates ("Paddle"), which acts as the reseller and merchant of record. Paddle takes your payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, issues your invoice and handles refunds. The purchase itself is governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Your use of PUB Rescue is governed by these terms.
2.2 Microsoft Store. In the Microsoft Store, PUB Rescue is a free download that runs as a trial. The Microsoft Store does not sell licences for PUB Rescue. Microsoft's terms apply to the download itself.
2.3 Prices. Prices are shown on pub-rescue.com and at checkout. The amount you pay, including tax, is the one Paddle shows before you pay. A licence is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
2.4 Delivery of the licence key. After payment we send your licence key by email to the address you gave at checkout, normally within 24 hours. You can use the trial while you wait. If the key has not arrived within 48 hours, write to hello@pub-rescue.com.
2.5 Upgrade. If you have a Personal licence, you can buy the Business edition for the difference in price. You then receive a new Business licence key. Your Personal licence becomes part of the Business licence: it cannot be transferred or used separately. We block the old Personal key on our activation service as soon as the Business key is issued, and later versions of PUB Rescue stop accepting it after 30 days. If the upgrade is refunded, we lift that block; if the Personal key is by then no longer accepted by the app, we send you a new Personal key instead.
2.6 Refunds. You can get your money back within 30 days, without giving a reason. See our refund policy.
3. Your licence
3.1 One-time, perpetual licence. For the one-time fee we grant you a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to install and use the version of PUB Rescue you receive, and any updates we provide for it, within the edition you bought. The licence does not expire. It does not automatically include future major versions sold as a new product. If a future major version is sold separately, we will say so before you buy it.
3.2 Personal edition. For one natural person and non-commercial use: private and household use, study, and unpaid volunteering, for example for a club or a parish. You may activate it on up to 3 computers that you personally use. Converting files as part of paid work, or for a business, needs the Business edition.
3.3 Business edition. For one organization: one company, public body, school, church, association or other legal entity, including its employees and contractors when they work for it, or one person acting in business (a sole trader or freelancer). It may be activated on up to 10 computers of the organization; for more, buy another licence or write to us. The organization may convert its clients' files on its own computers. Group companies each need their own licence.
3.4 Trial. Without a licence key, PUB Rescue runs as a free trial with no time limit. The trial converts every file and writes the full report, but creates only PDF files with a visible trial mark on each page, and no PowerPoint files. You may use trial output for any purpose, as long as you do not remove or hide the trial mark.
4. Licence keys
4.1 A licence key contains the edition, the licensee's name, the order number (Paddle transaction ID, txn_…) and the date of issue, and is digitally signed. PUB Rescue checks the signature on your computer.
4.2 Activation. When you enter the key, PUB Rescue connects once to our activation service at pub-rescue.com to confirm that the key is valid, has not been blocked and is within the computer limit of your edition. It sends the signed licence details (licence number, edition, issue date and key ID), a salted one-way hash of the licensee's name instead of the name itself, the licence signature, a one-way fingerprint (hash) of the computer and the app version, which also appears in the request's User-Agent header. After that, PUB Rescue works offline for good. Converting and the trial never need the internet.
4.3 Offline activation. If the computer cannot connect, PUB Rescue shows an activation request (as text and a QR code). Enter it at pub-rescue.com/activate/ on any other device, and load the activation file you receive into PUB Rescue.
4.4 Moving to another computer. Use "Deactivate this PC" in PUB Rescue to free a computer, or write to hello@pub-rescue.com and we will free it for you.
4.5 If the activation service ends. If we ever stop running the activation service, we will first release an update that no longer requires activation, so that paid licences keep working.
4.6 PUB Rescue stores the key and, once activated, the activation in your Windows user profile (%APPDATA%\com.pubrescue.app\). It never writes them or the licensee's name into converted files or reports.
4.7 Your key is for you (Personal) or for your organization (Business). Do not publish it, share it beyond your edition or sell it, except as allowed in section 12. If a key is published or misused, we may block it, so that it can no longer be activated on new computers, and we may refuse to issue further keys to that licensee. Computers already activated keep working.
4.8 If you lose your key, write to hello@pub-rescue.com and we will send it again free of charge, for up to 10 years after the purchase (privacy notice).
5. What you may not do
You may not, and may not let others:
(a) use PUB Rescue beyond your edition or these terms;
(b) remove, hide or alter the trial mark, create licence keys, or bypass or tamper with the licence check;
(c) rent, lend, sell or sublicense PUB Rescue, or offer it to others as a hosted or online service. Converting files on your own computers for your own clients under the Business edition is allowed;
(d) reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble PUB Rescue, except where the law allows this despite this restriction (in particular Article 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC) and except for third-party components under their own licences (section 8);
(e) remove copyright, trademark or licence notices.
6. Your files
6.1 You keep all rights in the files you convert and in the files PUB Rescue creates. We claim no rights in them and never receive a copy.
6.2 PUB Rescue reads the files and folders you choose and writes results only into the output folder you choose. It does not change, move or delete your original files.
6.3 You are responsible for having the right to convert the files you use and to use the results.
7. Conversion results
7.1 PUB Rescue converts Microsoft Publisher files by its own means, without Microsoft Publisher. Results can differ from what Publisher shows or prints, for example in fonts, line breaks, text wrapping, pictures or colours, and some content may not be converted. PUB Rescue lists the differences it knows of in the report for each file.
7.2 Check the results before you rely on them, especially before printing, publishing or archiving them, or deleting the originals. We recommend keeping your original .pub files.
8. Third-party components
8.1 PUB Rescue includes third-party software, fonts and data, listed with their licences in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt, which is installed with the app. Each is licensed to you under its own licence. Where that licence gives you rights these terms would restrict, that licence prevails for that component.
8.2 The libraries libmspub, librevenge and libeot are used under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, libmspub with our changes. On request to hello@pub-rescue.com we provide their complete source code, including our changes, free of charge, for as long as we distribute the version that uses them.
8.3 The bundled fonts (Carlito, Caladea, Gelasio, Liberation and Selawik) are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The bundled colour profile is dedicated to the public domain (CC0 1.0).
9. Offline operation and privacy
PUB Rescue works offline. Its only network connections are activating a licence, activating it again on the same computer, and deactivating a computer (sections 4.2 to 4.4), and it makes them only when you ask it to. Otherwise it makes no network connections of its own, contains no telemetry, analytics or advertising, and never sends your files or anything about them to us or anyone else. 10. Updates and support
10.1 We provide updates through the Microsoft Store and on pub-rescue.com. Consumers receive the updates the law requires to keep PUB Rescue in conformity with these terms, for as long as the law requires. Other updates are at our discretion.
10.2 Support is by email at hello@pub-rescue.com. We aim to reply within two working days.
11. Warranty and liability
11.1 If you are a consumer, you have the statutory rights for digital content that does not conform to the contract, including under Directive (EU) 2019/770 and Czech law. Nothing in these terms limits them.
11.2 Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, PUB Rescue is provided "as is". We do not promise that it converts every file correctly or runs without errors.
11.3 To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost data or the cost of recreating documents. Our total liability is limited to the price you paid for your licence. This does not apply to liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for intent, gross negligence, or death or personal injury.
12. Transfer
12.1 Personal: you may transfer your licence (unless it has become part of a Business upgrade) once to another person, if you stop using PUB Rescue and delete your key. Write to hello@pub-rescue.com and we will issue a key in the new owner's name.
12.2 Business: the licence passes with a merger, sale or transfer of the organization or of the part of it that uses PUB Rescue. Write to us and we will issue a key in the new name.
13. Ending the licence
13.1 If you materially breach these terms and do not put it right within 30 days of our written notice, we may end your licence. You must then stop using PUB Rescue under that licence and delete the key. You may keep the files you created lawfully.
13.2 If your payment is refunded or charged back, the licence you paid for ends and we block its key. PUB Rescue keeps working as a free trial.
13.3 Sections 6, 7, 8, 11, 14 and 15 continue to apply after the licence ends.
14. Sanctions
You may not use PUB Rescue in breach of EU, UN or US sanctions or export controls, or buy it on behalf of a sanctioned person.
15. Trademarks
Microsoft, Microsoft 365, Publisher, PowerPoint, Windows and Microsoft Store are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. PUB Rescue is not made, sponsored or endorsed by Microsoft.
16. Governing law and disputes
16.1 These terms are governed by Czech law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live (Article 6 of the Rome I Regulation).
16.2 Courts in the Czech Republic have jurisdiction. Consumers may also bring proceedings in the courts of their country.
16.3 Consumers can use out-of-court dispute resolution with the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce, adr.coi.cz).
17. General
17.1 These terms and our privacy notice are the whole agreement about your use of PUB Rescue. Paddle's Buyer Terms govern the purchase.
17.2 If a provision is invalid, the rest stays in force, and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one closest to its purpose.
17.3 We may change these terms for future versions. The terms that came with your version apply to that version. Changes do not reduce the rights you have already paid for.
